Ivan Fadeev

Chief director of the play

Dancer, choreographer, director. He is one of the few who puts on dances not only in
ballet, but also in opera, operetta, musicals and drama. His performances are shown at
international competitions, his performances adorn the repertoire of musical and
drama theaters and ensembles throughout the country, his plasticity and choreography
are “talked about” in productions of the New Opera, the Vakhtangov Theater, and the theater on Malaya
Bronnoy and in the State Kremlin Palace – during the New Year’s tree
campaigns.

He graduated from the Ballet master’s Department of the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts –
GITIS (1998, class of Professor Lilia Talankina).
From 1994 to 2001, he was a soloist of the modern dance group of the Russian Chamber Ballet
“Moscow”. He performed leading roles in such ballets as “The Wanderers” and “Where from and
Where to?”.

He made his debut as a choreographer in the play “The Captain’s Daughter” of the Maly Drama
Theater (Moscow, 1999).

Collaborates with the collectives of the Taganka Theater, the New Drama Theater, the Maly
Theater, the Mayakovsky Theater, the Pushkin Theater, the theater on Malaya Bronnaya,
Krasnodar musical show theater “Premiere” and others.
From 2001 to 2017 – director and choreographer of the Novaya Opera Theater (Moscow).
Since 2011, he has been the director of the Kremlin Christmas Tree.

“I don’t belong to any direction in directing,” Ivan Fadeev tells
reporters, “every time I try to do on stage what is required for
this particular production, based on the artistic material.”

The list of Fadeev’s directorial works includes the performances “In a Certain Kingdom” and “Cinderella”
(Krasnodar Musical Theater), “Go Crazy” (entreprise), the musical “Children of the Sun”
(entreprise), “The Mystery of Joan of Arc” and “John the Terrible” (Yaroslavl Drama Theater
Fyodor Volkov), the buffet ballets “The Lookout”, “Alice”, the ballet-tale “The Golden
Cockerel” in the Russian Chamber Ballet “Moscow”, the ballet “The Snow Maiden” at
the Natalia Sats Children’s Musical Theater; at the Novaya Opera Theater: musical action
“Bravissimo!”, musical offering “Maria Callas” (direction), opera
“The Snow Maiden” (plastic), fantasy “Ruslan and Lyudmila” (direction and plastic), concert
“Waltzes, tangos, foxtrots” (staging of dance stage miniatures).
